The Lerner College Outstanding Junior Faculty Award will be awarded to a full-time, untenured faculty member to recognize outstanding scholarship or other contributions to Lerner College initiatives. Evidence of scholarship should include publications in high-quality, well-respected journals and may also include conference presentations and publications, citation by other scholars, or other external recognition of a potentially consequential and impactful research stream.

The Lerner College Outstanding Teacher Award will be awarded to a full-time faculty member to recognize outstanding overall contribution to the Lerner College’s educational mission. Criteria for selection may include: classroom performance as evidenced by outstanding student course evaluations over a sustained period and/or letters of recommendation by current or former students; pedagogical innovation and program development; advising, mentoring, and career guidance; pedagogical research that has impacted Lerner College’s academic program delivery.

The Lerner College Outstanding Scholar Award will be awarded to a full-time faculty member to recognize outstanding scholarship by a Lerner College faculty member over a sustained period of time. Evidence of scholarship should include publications in high-quality, well-respected journals and/or books and may also include book chapters, conference presentations and publications, invited lectures, editorships, citation by other scholars, and other external recognition (e.g., editorial board memberships). 

The Lerner College Outstanding Outreach/Service Award will be awarded to a full-time faculty member to recognize outstanding outreach/service contributions, particularly those whose efforts significantly impact the department, college, community, state, regional, national, and/or international constituencies. Evidence may include an overview of the nominee’s outreach/service record and how it has complemented the educational mission of the Lerner College.

Students, alumni, staff and/or faculty members should submit letters of nomination, including a copy of the nominee’s resume and any other supporting materials, to Nancy Proctor ( by March 31, 2016. Prior recipients in the past five years are ineligible.  Self-nominations will not be accepted.

The Leon & Margaret Slocomb Professional Excellence Award is given each year to a full-time faculty or professional staff member in the Lerner College to a recipient who exhibits a caring attitude for the interest of students and clients. The individual should also demonstrate an exemplary commitment to public service, community involvement and innovative activity.

The Lerner College is home to a state-of-the-art financial trading facility, the $1.5 million student-led Blue Hen Investment Club, a student-managed restaurant and hotel, a high-technology development center of a global bank and a start-up experience for students with new business ideas.

Undergraduate scholarships, made possible through the generosity of alumni and friends, enable us to support promising scholars. Here, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and his mother, Leni Markell, join recipients of the William Markell Scholarship (center), which benefits students in Accounting and MIS.

The Institute for Financial Services Analytics is a collaboration between the Lerner College, UD's College of Engineering and JPMorgan Chase, and hosts events for academics and the business community designed to address consumer analytics and industry applications.

All Lerner College departments offer discovery learning experiences and emphasize data-based analytics to enrich the student experience. Here, students at Vita Nova, our award-winning restaurant run through HRIM, joined professional chefs and winemakers in hosting a 2014 Mid-Atlantic Wine and Food Festival event.

Lerner College faculty - like Meryl Gardner, whose research on foods and moods was recently published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology - are thought leaders who command attention from influential business audiences, economists and policy makers.
