The Audit Committee of the Future: What Skill Sets Will Committees Need?

Weinberg Center/PwC Webcast on Board Composition

PwC’s Investor Resource Institute and the Center for Board Governance together with the University of Delaware’s John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance in the Lerner College of Business and Economics held a webcast discussion on “Current Issues Relating to Board Composition”.  With today’s investors increasingly more focused on board composition, the panelists reviewed the critical issues of board composition and discussd how boards can address investor governance concerns including independent director industry expertise and other director skill sets, diversity, board evaluations, tenure and refreshment.

F. William McNabb, John L. Weinberg Distinguished Speaker - October 2014

The Center hosted F. William McNabb III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment companies, as the John L. Weinberg Distinguished Series speaker for the Fall of 2014.

Weinberg Center –Thought Leader on Board Composition

Ann C. Mulé, Associate Director, and Charles M. Elson, Director, of the Weinberg Center, published an article about the importance of independent director industry expertise on a public company board and the dangers of a “management knowledge-captured board.”  Ms. Mulé and/or Professor Elson have been speaking on this topic and the broader topic of board composition at various venues, including:  PwC/Weinberg Center webcast; RRD Donnelley Proxy Statement Interactive Seminar; TIAA-CREF Board of Trustees Retreat, Corporate Governance Committee meeting; 2015 ISS Annual  Conference; ABA Business Law Section Annual Meeting, Corporate Governance Committee; 2014 NACD Board Leadership Conference; The Conference Board's Global Corporate Governance Research Center's Corporate/Investor Summit; 2014 Citadel Directors Institute; and ABA Business Law Section Spring 2014 Meeting.

Weinberg Center symposium

UD event focuses on governance issues critical to boards and investors

The UD Weinberg Center's annual corporate governance symposium convened experts on issues of critical importance to corporate boards and investors.

The Lerner College is home to a state-of-the-art financial trading facility, the $1.5 million student-led Blue Hen Investment Club, a student-managed restaurant and hotel, a high-technology development center of a global bank and a start-up experience for students with new business ideas.

Undergraduate scholarships, made possible through the generosity of alumni and friends, enable us to support promising scholars. Here, Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and his mother, Leni Markell, join recipients of the William Markell Scholarship (center), which benefits students in Accounting and MIS.

The Institute for Financial Services Analytics is a collaboration between the Lerner College, UD's College of Engineering and JPMorgan Chase, and hosts events for academics and the business community designed to address consumer analytics and industry applications.

All Lerner College departments offer discovery learning experiences and emphasize data-based analytics to enrich the student experience. Here, students at Vita Nova, our award-winning restaurant run through HRIM, joined professional chefs and winemakers in hosting a 2014 Mid-Atlantic Wine and Food Festival event.

Lerner College faculty - like Meryl Gardner, whose research on foods and moods was recently published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology - are thought leaders who command attention from influential business audiences, economists and policy makers.
