Alan Wang is the Arthur Andersen Co., Alumni Professor in the Department of Business Information Technology at Pamplin College of Business, Virginia Tech. His diverse research interests include artificial intelligence, data and text mining, information retrieval, knowledge management and discovery, quality management and service management. He mainly conducts design science research across a wide spectrum of application areas such as social media analytics, business intelligence, managerial decision support, engineering, security and healthcare informatics. His work has been featured in prestigious academic journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Tourism Management, Journal of Business Ethics and Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology.
In December 2017, Dr. Wang and with his research team won the INFORMS Information Systems Society Design Science Award. His research has garnered media attention from outlets such as The New York Times and National Public Radio.
