Biography

Biography

Professor Barlow is a certified public accountant with over 45 years of professional accounting experience. He received his bachelor of science in accounting from the University of Delaware and then became a certified public accountant in the state of Delaware. Having begun his accounting career with Deloitte on the audit staff, he then joined The Cigna Group (Cigna) and held a series of accounting roles with increasing responsibility for more than 35 years.

For the last decade of his career with Cigna, he was the director of SEC reporting, overseeing the preparation and filing of Cigna’s quarterly and annual financial statements with the SEC. In March of 2020, he retired from full-time service with Cigna. In 2021, he was hired as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware to teach ACCT208 for the summer session. Professor Barlow also teaches ACCT207 and is an instructor for BUAD110. In addition to the undergraduate coursework that he has taught, in May of 2020, Professor Barlow developed and delivered a seminar on the accounting for stock-based compensation for a graduate-level course on financial reporting issues.

In addition to his work in the corporate world, Professor Barlow maintains a small CPA practice specializing in tax planning and preparation and financial consulting, serving mostly individual and small business clients.
