Biography

Joanne Jung-Eun Yoo, Ph.D. is a professor in the Department of Hospitality and Sport Business Management at the University of Delaware, where she has been a faculty member since 2010 following her appointment at the University of Houston’s Conrad N. Hilton College. With a global background spanning South Korea (B.A.), Australia (M.B.A.) and Hong Kong (Ph.D.), as well as professional experience with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in the Netherlands and the Pacific Asia Travel Association in Thailand, Dr. Yoo brings an international perspective to her scholarship, teaching, and service.

Dr. Yoo has taught courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, such as intercultural communication, event management and tourism. She is also deeply passionate about mentoring doctoral and master’s students, guiding them through their academic and professional journeys and collaborating with them on research projects.

Her research program lies at the intersection of event and convention tourism, hospitality management, sustainability and consumer behavior. She is widely recognized for her influential contributions to event studies, beginning with her foundational work on convention participation decision-making (Journal of Travel Research, 2008) and expanding into areas such as supply chain management, sport events and community well-being. Her scholarship also advances understanding of consumer psychology in tourism and hospitality, with studies on gastronomy experiences, multisensory marketing and women’s empowerment.

Her publications appear in leading journals such as Tourism Management, Journal of Travel Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management and Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research.

Dr. Yoo is recognized for her global perspective, scholarly leadership and commitment to student success, making her a strong contributor to both academia and the hospitality and tourism industries.
