Biography

Biography

Markus Schuckert is professor and chairperson of the Hospitality and Sport Management Department at the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, University of Delaware. His career has taken him across three continents, blending academic leadership, industry experience and entrepreneurial ventures.

Before joining UD in August 2025, Markus served as professor and chair of the Hospitality Management Department, Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, University of New Hampshire, as professor and director of the Lester E. Kabacoff School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration at the University of New Orleans, as well as professor of tourism and transport management in Switzerland, where he also directed the Institute for Tourism and Leisure Research and the School of Tourism in Chur.

Markus became tenured at the School of Hotel & Tourism Management at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and received his Ph.D. at the University of Innsbruck.

Markus began his career in the international aviation and tourism industries, where he developed a deep understanding of global markets, technology and business strategies. Building on this expertise, he launched his own consulting firm in Europe, advising destinations and hospitality organizations on market research, product development and change management.

His research sits at the intersection of digital marketing, travel technology and strategic management, exploring how innovation shapes the future of service and sport management. Markus has shared his insights widely through publications in leading journals, presentations at international conferences and contributions to industry forums, as well as edited books for both scholarship and practice.

Passionate about education, Markus is committed to preparing the next generation of hospitality and tourism leaders. He has supervised postgraduate students in Europe, North America and Asia, and is continually experimenting with new teaching methods and technologies to create engaging, future-ready learning experiences in the classroom and online.
