Biography

Biography

Sarah Shaukat is a visiting assistant professor of economics in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware. She is a development economist whose research lies at the intersection of development, labor and gender economics. Her work focuses on two main areas: the role of state and non-state actors in shaping development outcomes, with a particular emphasis on NGOs and public service delivery, and the constraints to firm growth among women-led microenterprises. Her research uses randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental methods to generate policy-relevant evidence on entrepreneurship, business networks and technology adoption.

Her research has been supported by the International Growth Centre (IGC), J-PAL and the Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) initiative. In addition to her academic research, she has worked with the World Bank, UN Women, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Mathematica on research and policy projects in international development. Prior to joining the University of Delaware, she was a visiting assistant professor of economics at The College of Wooster. She received her Ph.D. in economics and public policy from Tufts University and her M.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
