Hospitality Club

Students at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics have a diverse range of nearly 30 student-led groups on campus, offering students opportunities to connect, engage and grow in their personal and professional interests.

Caroleena Cabrera, Class of 2027 hospitality and event experience management major, is the vice president of the Hospitality Club. Cabrera shared why she joined, her goals for this student group and what makes this organization unique.

Lerner: When and why did you choose to join this student group?

Cabrera: I joined this student group because it’s related to my major and helps me learn more. They also organize great events that are fun and useful, giving me the opportunity to connect with like-minded people.

Lerner: When and where does your student group meet and approximately how many members do you have?

Cabrera: The Hospitality Club meets Mondays at 5:15 p.m. in Trabant Student Center and we have about 60 members.

Lerner: What is the mission/goal of your student group?

Cabrera: The mission of the Hospitality Club is to network with peers socially and professionally. Additionally, the club aims to meet with hospitality professionals and connect students to careers in hospitality.

Lerner: What is your best memory or proudest moment from this student group?

Cabrera: My proudest memory from this organization is when we raised $2,000 from a silent auction held during our brunch social event.

Lerner: What is unique about your student group?

Cabrera: The Hospitality Club is unique because it holds social hospitality events, allowing students to connect with peers who hold similar interests. We also have a younger reach, as many people who serve on our executive board are sophomores, giving them leadership experience early in their undergraduate career.

Lerner: What are your goals for the future of your student group?

Cabrera: My goals for the future of this group is to continue to increase our social media reach, member count and raise money to go towards our events and activities. We also want to share and grow our passion for hospitality throughout Lerner.

Lerner: How has your student group helped you grow, personally or professionally?

Cabrera: My group has helped me creatively as I work on social media, invitations and presentations. In addition, I have connected with many people in the hospitality industry as we host “Why Hospitality” events, where successful alumni from the hospitality industry come in to share their journey, success and experiences.

Lerner: Does your group have any social media handles?
