Bradley “Brad” Scott, who was an engagement specialist in the Career Services Center at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, passed away on Jan. 8, 2023 in Newark, DE. He was 58.
After a stellar 30-year career in banking, Scott joined the Career Services Center at UD’s Lerner College in 2019. He called it his “dream job.” He played a vital role in growing the Lerner Executive Mentoring program and employer engagement initiatives. Scott also mentored and coached several students to help them obtain their dream jobs.
“Brad was responsible for bringing in hundreds of mentors to the Lerner Executive Mentoring Program, significantly increasing the number of employers coming to campus to recruit our students and helping countless students become more confident and reach their potential,” said Jill Pante, director of Lerner Career Services Center. “He was an incredibly positive and generous person and made a difference in every life he touched.”
Scott’s resounding impact on students and employers will not be forgotten.
“Brad was the type of person you looked forward to seeing,” said Leslie Powers, a sophomore marketing major who was a recent mentee. “There was never a moment that I was not excited about our meetings. While I am incredibly sad that our time was cut short, I am extremely lucky to have been his mentee.”
“His check ins and chit chats in the office made my day and job more enjoyable,” said Evan Centofanti, a senior marketing major, another recent mentee. “Brad leaves a strong impact on the Lerner College, students, friends and family who remember him every day. I will appreciate and remember the experiences I’ve had with Brad for the rest of my life.”
“I love being part of the Lerner Executive Mentoring program and Brad played a direct role in providing such a great experience for me and the students I work with,” said Kristen Hanna, talent development manager at DRT Strategies. “I will be forever grateful for his contributions and guidance.”
Scott was born on Oct. 6, 1964 in St. Louis, MO to Dr. James Scott and the late Doris Carlisle He graduated from UD in 1987. He met his UD soulmate, Michelle Ann Mahaney in 1989. They met on Main Street and they fell in love in San Francisco. They married in New Jersey in 1992.
Through their 30 years together, they loved traveling, biking, romantic dinner dates, spending time with family and their favorite, just being with their children. Together, they had 3 wonderful children, Allison, David, and Erin. They were Scott’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
In his free time, Scott enjoyed playing basketball any night of the week with his friends, taking the dogs to the dog park, going to the HAC, traveling, trying new foods, going to Longwood Gardens, watching Jeopardy, attending annual ski trips with his family, watching home videos, hanging out with his family, and sparking up conversation with anyone and everyone.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 -8:00 pm on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 at the Willowdale Chapel Kennett Square Campus, 675 Unionville Rd., Kennett Square, PA. A memorial service for Scott will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023 at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Scott, his family asks you to, “please take a walk with your spouse at Longwood, hang out with your children, call your family, invite your friends over for a meal, throw a tennis ball with your dog, play basketball whenever you can, or mentor a student at the UD. Most of all, enjoy your life and speak a kind word to one another because that’s all Brad spoke about each of you.”
