This Winter Session, the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, in partnership with the Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy and Administration, will launch FINC100: Financial Literacy for Life. This three-credit course, supported by a grant from Robinhood Markets’ Money Drills program, is designed to equip students with lifelong money management skills.

Open to all UD students, the online course will cover practical topics such as budgeting, debt management, investing, taxes, insurance and financial planning for both short- and long-term goals. While the course will include modules addressing issues unique to student-athletes—such as managing NIL income, sponsorship contracts and career transitions—all students will take the course together, ensuring a shared learning experience that reflects diverse perspectives.

“At Lerner College, we strive to prepare every student with the skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” said Oliver Yao, dean of Lerner College. “Financial literacy is fundamental to both professional and personal success, and this new course is a perfect example of how we are creating innovative, accessible learning opportunities that equip students for life beyond the classroom.”

The course will be developed by Lerner’s Donald J. Puglisi, Professor of Finance Laura Field, Chair of the Department of Finance; Rich Jakotowicz, associate instructor of finance and director of the financial planning and wealth management major; Howland Redding, assistant professor of finance; Tim DeSchriver, associate professor of sport management: and the Biden School’s Breck Robinson, associate professor.

“Understanding personal finance is essential for every student, no matter their major or career path,” said Field. “With this course, we are giving students the tools to make informed financial decisions, from managing debt to planning for the future. We believe this awareness will enrich their lives long after graduation.”

“Robinhood is excited to partner with the University of Delaware to bring for-credit financial education directly to student-athletes. Money Drills is designed to empower the next generation with the tools and confidence to navigate their financial futures both on and off the field,” said Chloe Barz, senior director of international government and external affairs, Robinhood Markets, Inc. “By expanding this program, we’re continuing our commitment to making financial education more accessible and relevant to students where they are.”

Robinhood’s Money Drills initiative has already reached thousands of students nationwide, with 96% of participants reporting stronger financial management skills after taking the course at their university.. With the addition of UD, the program’s impact continues to grow, ensuring Blue Hens have access to the knowledge and tools they need to thrive during their time on campus and beyond.
