A native of Garu, Ghana, Saviour Anyagri graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as a business analytics major.

Anyagri was nominated for this series by Lerner Academic Program Coordinator Andrea Hartman.

Hartman said, “[He is] a great candidate who is graduating in Spring with an MBA in business analytics. He is a foreign national student from Ghana. What makes him special is he is the founder of the Saviour Organization. His name is Saviour Anyagri. Our Team — Saviour Organization. He is a student who is focused on making the village he grew in a better place for children and to give them hope for the future.”

In this profile Anyagri shares his favorite UD memories, how he overcame challenges, and his future plans.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Anyagri: As I reflect on my past, I realize that I used to be someone who would blindly follow the crowd without really thinking about why or if it was the right thing to do. However, during my time here at UD, I have learned to prioritize the things that are truly important to me and my goals. This has helped me make better decisions and avoid situations that don’t align with my objectives.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Anyagri: During my first semester on campus, I hoped to explore the new environment, make new friends, and learn how to effectively learn in a large classroom. However, shortly after acclimating to campus life, COVID-19 struck and my plans were cut short. As a student-athlete, I was disappointed to learn that my soccer season would be canceled, and I was unable to build deeper connections with my classmates due to the school’s closure and the shift to online learning. Despite these challenges, I learned to focus on the things I could control and appreciate the small moments. I stayed on campus for an additional two weeks to enjoy its beauty before returning home.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Anyagri: One of my favorite experiences at UD has been walking around the Green. The Green is a place that always allows me to forget about the difficult week I’ve had and just be free, enjoying the breeze. Another great UD experience for me has been being an athlete. Every day, I grind it out, making countless sacrifices, but most importantly, being able to hear my name mentioned in the starting lineup or coming on as a substitute.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Anyagri: It’s challenging to identify a single person who had a significant impact on me personally due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that most of my MBA classes were online or asynchronous. However, some of the Lerner professors who had a massive academic impact on me are Dr. Mark Server, Professor Dianne Leipold, and Professor Anatoliy Anguelov. The skills and knowledge I acquired from each of their classes are highly technical and applicable in today’s corporate world.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Anyagri: Being a lifelong learner to me means having a curious mind and being open to new ideas. In the beginning, you may feel that pursuing a certain major is not the right fit for you because of the course title or technical nature of the course. However, asking questions and seeking out help can open up new learning opportunities that you never imagined were possible.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Anyagri: My biggest advice to any upcoming freshman is take initiative to attend office hours or any extra session. Capitalizing on those opportunities allows you to build the connection with your professors, which gives them a better chance identifying your strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, it is an opportunity to hear an explanation more than once which will increase your understanding and retention rate.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Anyagri: Currently, I am applying for a full-time job and hoping to land an opportunity soon.
