This summer, students from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics discovered new avenues for professional preparation and practical hands-on experience. Lerner College students pursued an array of internships, externships and other professional development opportunities. From MBA scholars to undergraduates entering their second year at UD, students across a spectrum of Lerner programs shared their experiences accomplishing an assortment of projects.

Each profile of our “My Summer Internship” series will provide a glimpse into one of these unique experiences and how students applied knowledge from their studies to be successful in the real-world.

Julia Moller, class of 2026 marketing major with an interactive media minor, spent her summer as a communications intern at EUCORD.

Lerner: How did you find out about this internship? Why did you pursue it?

Moller: I found out about this internship through the study abroad programs here at the University of Delaware. I pursued this opportunity because the program was a business focused study abroad that allowed me to gain international business knowledge and experience interning for a company in my field of study.

Lerner: What was the most exciting task or project that you completed?

Moller: The most exciting task or project that I completed with EUCORD was being able to edit and improve their website through WordPress and see my changes come to life.

Lerner: What did you learn from the internship that you think you would not have learned elsewhere?

Moller: I was able to learn about the culture of Brussels, Belgium and other places in Europe where the people I worked with were from.

Lerner: What is an example of a time where you were able to apply what you’ve learned at Lerner to your role?

Moller: Through Lerner, I took MISY160 where I worked a lot with Excel. I was able to apply these skills to my internship when I was working with Excel.

Lerner: Did you face any challenges during your internship? If so, what was the issue and how did you overcome it?

Moller: During my internship, there were points where I would need a little more work to make sure I was being productive. I was able to ask my boss politely if there were any projects I could work on or if there was anything he needed help with.

Lerner: What are your career plans, and how do you think the internship will push you closer to your professional goals?

Moller: My plan is to work in sports marketing in the future. I think the internship will push me closer to my professional goals by gaining experience in the professional world that I can apply to any job/field I pursue.
