Women in Business

Students at the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics have a diverse range of nearly 30 student-led groups on campus, offering students opportunities to connect, engage and grow in their personal and professional interests.

Adelina Campbell, Class of 2025 management and operations management double major, is the president of Women in Business. Campbell shared why she joined the club and what makes this organization unique.

Lerner: When and why did you choose to join this student group?

Campbell: I joined Women in Business as a freshman (fall of 2021) because I wanted guidance in exploring different career paths. I wanted to meet and gain insights from experienced members who already had internships and a better sense of their career goals. As a quiet freshman not knowing many other business majors I knew I needed to get out of my comfort zone to meet new people and WIB was the perfect place to start.

Lerner: When and where does your student group meet and approximately how many members do you have?

Campbell: Our meeting dates, times, and locations vary by event. We have social, professional and company events with attendance varying from 50-100 members with over 300 members on our club member list.

Lerner: What is the mission/goal of your student group?

Campbell: Our goal is to empower and support women in every stage of their professional journey. Through mentorship, networking and skill development, we strive to empower our members with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to thrive in their endeavors.

Lerner: What is your best memory or proudest moment from this student group?

Campbell: My favorite memories include planning events with my other executive board members like our Women Run Small Business Panel which featured business owners from the local area. It’s a great feeling to see students take time out of their day to attend these events that we work hard to plan and hear their feedback on how the event impacted them.

Lerner: What is unique about your student group?

Campbell: Women in Business is an all female identifying group that accepts all majors and tries to cater to a variety of interests. That’s why we have company events where we have professionals from various industries and roles engage with members to share industry insight, their career pathway, conduct Q&A panels, and provide networking opportunities. Professional development events are designed to help members build skills, gain knowledge, and prepare for their future careers. Events may include workshops, skill sessions, and panel discussions. We also plan social events that are a more relaxed atmosphere focused on building connections and fostering a sense of community among members.

Lerner: What are your goals for the future of your student group?

Campbell: We hope to build our community engagement and continue to foster our relationships with our members, alumni, local business leaders, and corporate sponsors. We aim to equip our members with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed in the workplace.

Lerner: How has your student group helped you grow, personally or professionally?

Campbell: Women in Business has helped me grow into a more confident and capable leader, both personally and professionally. Through our interview preparation, networking events, and resume workshops, I’ve gained valuable skills that will benefit me in my career. Beyond that, the insights and experiences shared by our speakers have taught me important life lessons about resilience, leadership, and navigating the professional world. Being part of this organization has also pushed me outside of my comfort zone, allowing me to build meaningful connections, develop my voice, and step into new opportunities with confidence. I’m grateful for the supportive community that WIB has provided and the impact it has had on my personal and professional growth.
