Lifelong Lerner: Ryan Goodwin

Collage of photos of Ryan Goodwin.

As a member of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ Class of 2020, Ryan Goodwin from Howell, New Jersey has not had the typical final semester or commencement at UD due to the coronavirus outbreak. He, and his entire class, have shown incredible resilience, maturity and spirit while adjusting to the many unexpected changes that they have encountered.

Goodwin was nominated for this series by UD assistant professor of management Nathan Bragaw, who said, “As a faculty member, you always remember those students who see the class not just for what needs to be known for the test but rather how the material matters in the business world. Ryan got it and, if he didn’t, he let me know. In the quest for grades and internships and interviews, sometimes students lose sight of the bigger picture. I never got that impression with Ryan.

In this profile, Goodwin, a management and marketing double major with a minor in international business studies, shared his favorite UD memories, how he has changed during his time at UD and his plans following graduation.

Q: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Goodwin: I’ve grown as a person and learned to really focus on my passions in life.

Q: What is your favorite place at UD?

Goodwin: Memorial Hall because of the picturesque views and the history behind the location.

Q: What is the most memorable course that you took at Lerner?

Goodwin: Designing Effective Organizations with Dr. Bragaw because he made all of the material so interesting and presented it as such.

Q: What was your favorite signature UD experience?

Goodwin: Every opening football game because it symbolizes the start of each new year.

Q: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Goodwin: It means to me that every situation and experience in life can provide meaningful lessons.

Q: What are your plans following graduation?

Goodwin: Financial advising path working for Merrill Lynch starting in the summer post-college.
