Lifelong Lerner: Allison Sanders

Collage of two photos of Allison Sanders.

As a member of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ Class of 2020, Allison Sanders from Pitman, New Jersey has not had the typical final semester or commencement at UD due to the coronavirus outbreak. She, and her entire class, have shown incredible resilience, maturity and spirit while adjusting to the many unexpected changes that they have encountered.

Sanders was nominated for this series by UD’s Horn Entrepreneurship marketing communications coordinator Vanessa Manges-Spence, who said, “Allison has brought her entrepreneurial learning into the Horn Entrepreneurship marketing team with the same inspiration she has for her own life. Her new fresh ideas expand beyond our marketing team in that she has engaged fellow students that previously were not engaged with Horn and she has interfaced with faculty and staff with that same zest and entrepreneurial passion.”

In this profile, Sanders, an entrepreneurship major with an advertising minor, shared her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.

Q: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Sanders: UD helped me challenge myself and grow in confidence by putting myself in unfamiliar situations. I have learned how to better communicate and problem solve. I have also found the best of friends!

Q: What is your favorite place at UD?

Sanders: Aside from Morris Library, my favorite place is Klondike Kate’s. Working there I made the best memories with the best people. This place made Delaware feel like a second home!

Q: What is the most memorable course that you took at Lerner?

Sanders: Intro to Entrepreneurship is my favorite class because it attracts students from all different colleges and allows them to think creatively and in new ways! After taking it my freshman year, I was a TA for the class a year later, which helped me with leadership and time management.

Q: What was your favorite signature UD experience?

Sanders: Homecoming season was always the best when our parents and families would come visit! Also, being a member of Pi Beta Phi was a great experience and gave me some of my best memories of college!

Q: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Sanders: Being a Lifelong Lerner means that I am committed to excelling in ways that Lerner would be proud of. Lerner College has prepared me for the next chapter of my life and I am so beyond grateful.

Q: What are your plans following graduation?

Sanders: After graduating and completing my internship with Horn Entrepreneurship, I am hoping to leverage what I learned in my marketing courses to find a job in digital marketing in the cosmetics industry.
