Heimann Memorial Award Honorees

Heinmann Memorial Award winners stand with Lerner Dean Oliver Yao and Accounting Professor George Tsakumis

Four accounting majors were honored in May with the Jeffrey Heimann Memorial Award. Jeff was an accounting major who was tragically killed in a car accident, and the award was established through contributions in his honor.

“UD is where we met, and we both loved the school, so I knew I wanted to do something through Lerner College—where we both earned our degrees—and I set up the Jeffrey Heimann Memorial Award,” Marla Dean, BE82, P21, said. “The fund helps a rising senior accounting major. Thirty-two years after his passing, I still contribute to the fund and encourage others to do so as well.”

Normally, there are one or two recipients of this prestigious award; this year, four rising seniors had truly exceptional academic performance while maintaining perfect GPAs:

  • Redwanul Bari prepared tax returns for more than 50 low-to-middle-income families through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program.

  • Jenna Troyer interned with Choptank Electric, developing her accounting skills in private industry.

  • Owen Smith worked as a tax intern in KPMG’s Philadelphia office, contributing to teams in the transportation and healthcare sectors.

  • Emma Dolgin completed an assurance internship with KPMG in Stamford, Connecticut.

. We are so excited to see what these four superstars do in the years to come.
