Lifelong Lerner: Allie Rebuck

A native of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Allie Rebuck graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as an honors business analytics and management information systems double major.

Rebuck was nominated for this series by Instructor of MIS, Faculty Program Director – Technology Projects Ryan Rodalunas and Professor of Marketing, Associate Dean of Curriculum Julia Bayuk.

Rodalunas said, “Allie is an exceptional student who consistently demonstrates a thirst for knowledge and dedication to being a role model and leader for others. What sets Allie apart from her peers is her remarkable leadership abilities and commitment to making a positive impact on her community. She is a highly motivated young professional, serving as senior vice president of Delta Sigma Pi, a member of the Lerner Student Advisory Board, and Lerner Ambassador during the Decision Days open houses.”

In this profile, Rebuck shares her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Rebuck: Compared to my freshman year, I have become more comfortable being uncomfortable! Through embracing new leadership, public speaking, and job opportunities, I have gained confidence in my potential. This is a mentality that I hope to be beneficial as I enter a brand new work environment post-graduation.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Rebuck: A challenge has been balancing my professional goals with my other hobbies throughout college. Wanting to take on exciting challenges in jobs and student organizations, I sometimes neglected to prioritize other things I love doing such as sports & fitness; however, this year I have made it a priority to make more time for the hobbies I enjoy most!

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Rebuck: My favorite signature UD experience was studying abroad in Sydney, Australia my junior year. I was able to learn & adventure (including skydiving for the first time) alongside some of my best friends!

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Rebuck: The faculty of Lerner have made my experience one of a kind. However, I must give a special thank you to Julia Bayuk, Louisa Cresson, Andrea Everard, Edward Hartono, Justin Klein, Nicole Rich, Ryan Rodalunas, Anu Sivaraman, and Todd Whitlow for inspiring me to achieve my goals inside and outside the classroom.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Rebuck: Being a Lifelong Lerner is a mindset to embrace opportunities that motivate me to grow personally and professionally. It’s about seeking out diverse perspectives, tackling new challenges, and, as I learned in my IT leadership class, “knowing what you don’t know.”

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Rebuck: Don’t be afraid to pave your own path, even if it means venturing off on your own! What is important to one person’s college experience will not be identical to what you value and those differences should be celebrated.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Rebuck: I am thrilled to be joining Hilton full-time in its LAUNCH – Analytics cohort. In the program, I will spend the first four months on-property in London before returning to headquarters for two analytical rotations.
