A native of Prospect, Conn., Anna Nichols graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as a marketing major with a minor in international business.

In this profile, Nichols shared her favorite UD memories, challenges she has overcome and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Nichols: During my first semester at UD I was still finding my footing. Although I initially felt hesitant to step out of my comfort zones and join clubs/RSOs, I made it a point to challenge myself and get involved. Campus truly started to feel like home once I began embracing new opportunities!

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Nichols: There were moments where I found myself struggling to grasp the material in some of my classes, especially the courses that were math focused. However, I frequently utilized UD’s tutoring resources and made it a point to visit my professors during their office hours to better understand the material. Through those experiences, I developed strong communication skills and learned that perseverance and dedication can make challenging situations more manageable.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Nichols: Studying abroad in Paris, France will forever be my favorite part of my college experience. I am beyond blessed to have had the opportunity to not only live, but study in such a magical city. Prior to studying abroad, I was fortunate enough to have interned for a French chateau, which made the experience even more meaningful when I was able to visit it during my stay. Simply put: J’adore Paris!

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Nichols: My answer will always be Minda Watson, assistant director of Lerner Career Services. Minda is a light, bringing sunshine into every room she walks into. Minda goes out of her way to ensure every student who walks into Lerner Career Services is welcomed, supported, and genuinely valued. Her expertise in career coaching has supported hundreds of Lerner students, helping them to succeed and grow professionally. Personally, Minda has spoken life into every part of my professional journey, acting as both a mentor and a constant source of encouragement as I navigate my early career. It has been an absolute pleasure to learn from her example of leadership, compassion and unwavering dedication to student success.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Nichols: Being a “Lifelong Lerner” means continuously seeking opportunities to growth and learn something new. I am excited to take on new learning experiences post-grad because my time at UD has shown me the value of being adaptable, staying curious and saying “yes” to growth opportunities. I am proud to be a Lifelong Lerner!

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most out of their college experience?

Nichols: My piece of advice would be to seek out trusted mentors. A huge part of my college experience was connecting with mentors and learning from their personal and professional experiences. I’m especially grateful for Lerner’s Executive Mentorship program which connected me with a wonderful mentor who offered valuable guidance throughout my college career. I would absolutely recommend that incoming students join this program.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Nichols: Following graduation, I plan to explore growth opportunities that allow me to apply the skills and experiences I have developed throughout my college career. I am excited to pursue opportunities that encourage continued learning, professional growth and purposeful impact!
