A native of King of Prussia, Pa., Anna Salamy graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics with an honors degree in marketing and sport management.

Salamy was nominated for this series by Academic Program Manager Cindy Walkusky. In this profile, Salamy shares her favorite UD memories, challenges she has overcome and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Salamy: Since my first semester at UD, I’ve grown so much! I came into college as a marketing major, knowing I wanted to be in business but wasn’t sure exactly what. Now as a senior I have added a double major in sport management, served as president of the sport management club, president of the club water polo team, and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi. Being a part of these amazing clubs and organizations have shaped who I am today. I have learned to be a leader and to push the limits!

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Salamy: One of the challenges I faced was during my sophomore year I did not feel settled here. I was living in an off-campus apartment that I did not like with not the best people. I had to learn how to ask for help from others and I had such a great support system, especially my professors and advisors here at Lerner who helped me every step of the way. I learned how important it is to reach out for help and advocate for myself.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Salamy: My favorite experience at UD has been playing on the club water polo team the last four years. Being a part of a coed team allowed me to meet some of the best people and build friendships that have made my college experience so much more meaningful. It gave me a strong sense of community and created memories and connections that I will always value.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Salamy: Cindy Walkusky! Cindy has been through my toughest and best times here at the University of Delaware. Sophomore year I was struggling with my mental health, and when I shared my struggles with Cindy, she knew exactly what to say and how to help me. She saw the potential I had here and encouraged me to continue through those hard times. She is truly my biggest supporter here. Cindy has seen me grow into the person I am today and I am so thankful to have had her as my advisor the past three years!

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Salamy: I am so incredibly honored to have been nominated as an outstanding member of the Class of 2026. To me, being a Lifelong Lerner means to always take on challenges and go for every opportunity that comes my way. It means to always work towards your goals and that any experience, good or bad, is a learning experience. My time here at UD has shown me that you can do anything that you put your mind to and to always believe in yourself.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most out of their college experience?

Salamy: GET INVOLVED! You have four years, eight semesters, to get involved in an RSO, internship, organization, etc. There are so many clubs here on campus and it is where you make amazing friends. Also get to know your professors, make sure they know who you are. The professors here at UD are great and truly want what is best for you but they can’t help if they don’t know you.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Salamy: Following graduation, I will be returning for one more season with Barnegat Light Beach Patrol before I enter the sports industry! With hopes of being able to work for a Philly sports team in the future!
