A native of Newark, Del., Catherine Oluwafumbi Osinubi is graduating from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as an honors management information systems major and is pursuing an M.S. in business analytics and information management.
Osinubi was nominated for this series by Assistant Professor of MIS, Advisor – MIS Undergrad Edward Hartono, who described Catherine as an “outstanding student.”
In this profile, Osinubi shares her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.
Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?
Osinubi: During my first semester of UD, I thought I had it all figured out which I quickly learned wasn’t true. In reflection over the course of my time here so far, my time management and focus has improved significantly.
Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?
Osinubi: A main challenge was dealing with burnout as someone who loves to be involved. I had to truly rectify my relationship with taking care of myself while ensuring I wasn’t denying myself from the pleasures of being a part of RSOs and attending conferences.
Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?
Osinubi: My favorite UD experience has to be attending the Winter 25 South Africa AFRA/HDFS study abroad. I learned so much about myself and got to experience culture not just displayed but living it.
Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?
Osinubi: The professor who made the largest impact and who nominated me for this was Mr. Hartono. He has been an amazing advisor and has taught me so much!
Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?
Osinubi: It means to me that despite graduating, I’ll always be a part of the Lerner community, as an alumni cheering on those who come after me and continuing to stay connected.
Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?
Osinubi: My number one advice is to not sit on the sidelines. Whether it’s an RSO, “nerdy” competition, a conference, or a sport, you won’t regret the skills you take away from experiencing new things.
Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?
Osinubi: I will continue taking classes for my master’s. Simultaneously I hope to work part-time in a business technology role.
