A native of Malverne, N.Y., Dana Vilardi is graduating from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as a finance and marketing double major.

Vilardi was nominated for this series by Assistant Professor of Finance Howland Redding, who said, “I have taught Dana for multiple semesters and she earns top scores on all exams, assignments and semester grades. Dana has perfect attendance and contributes in class discussions, she is a pleasure to teach and have in class.”

In this profile, Vilardi shares her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Vilardi: Since my first semester at UD, I’ve become much more confident in my academic and professional abilities, learning how to manage my time effectively and balance multiple responsibilities. UD has given me the resources and motivation to step out of my comfort zone and pursue real world experiences.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Vilardi: One of the biggest challenges I faced during college was learning how to balance a demanding academic schedule with part-time jobs and extracurricular activities. At first this challenge felt scary and overwhelming, but it just pushed me to strengthen my time management skills.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Vilardi: My favorite experience was getting to study abroad in Thailand and Australia. This experience allowed me to see the world through a different perspective!

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Vilardi: Professor Howland Redding and Professor Rabaa’i. These professors were so welcoming and always willing to help when I was in need.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Vilardi: It’s about embracing new challenges, continuously seeking new knowledge, and using those experiences to make a positive impact in both my personal and professional life.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Vilardi: Do not be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. I know it can feel scary and overwhelming navigating this new time of your life, but it will get easier. Try to meet as many people as you can, and do not be afraid to try new things!

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Vilardi: I plan to work as a financial administrator at a construction company in Long Island.
