A native of Marcellus, N.Y., Eve Chapman graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as a double major in operations management and marketing with minors in art and fashion management.
Chapman was nominated for this series by Lerner Communications and Assistant Professor of Management Beth Schinoff. In this profile, Chapman shares her favorite UD memories, challenges she has overcome and her plans following graduation.
Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?
Chapman: I have changed so much since my first semester at UD. I came into college as a psychology major, unsure of what I wanted to do in the future or whether it was truly my calling. During my sophomore year, I was first introduced to Lerner when I took Introduction to Marketing, and I was immediately hooked. I switched my major to marketing and soon after declared a second major in operations management. From that point on, I began to genuinely enjoy my classes and feel much more confident in the direction I was heading. My time at UD and within Lerner has helped me grow into a much more confident and self-assured person!
Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?
Chapman: One of the biggest challenges I faced in college was adjusting to campus life freshman year. I struggled with being away from home and finding my place on campus. I pushed myself to get more involved by joining clubs and meeting new people, which eventually helped UD feel like home. At the same time, I was still unsure about my academic path, so I explored different subjects through classes like Introduction to Marketing and journalism. Through that process, I discovered my passions, switched my major to marketing, added a second major in operations management, and later pursued minors in art and fashion management. My experience taught me that UD offers endless opportunities, but it is up to you to put yourself out there and take advantage of them.
Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?
Chapman: My favorite signature UD experience by far was my study abroad experience. During the winter term of my junior year, I had the opportunity to study in Rome and Florence, and it was truly the most magical month of my life. Since it was my first time in Europe, I was blown away by the food, history, architecture and culture I experienced. I visited some of Italy’s most iconic sites, including the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo and St. Peter’s Basilica. I ended the trip feeling incredibly grateful and came home with unforgettable memories and a group of amazing friends!
Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?
Chapman: One of the most impactful people I met at UD was Beth Schinoff. I had Professor Schinoff for BUAD 309 – Management and Organizational Behavior during my sophomore year, and she has since become both a mentor and a friendly face on campus. Her class was one of the biggest factors in my decision to declare a second major in operations management because she created a classroom environment where I felt comfortable expressing my ideas and opinions. Although I have not taken another class with her since, she has continued to be someone I love running into around Lerner and catching up with. Professor Schinoff reminds me of the kind of businesswoman I hope to become one day!
Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?
Chapman: I am incredibly honored to have been nominated as an outstanding member of the Class of 2026. Throughout my time at UD, I have continuously set goals for myself and worked hard to achieve them. To me, being a “Lifelong Lerner” means embracing a life of continuous learning and growth. While my time as a student is coming to an end, I know there is still so much to learn from others and through lived experiences. I hope to continue being the curious and inquisitive person that Lerner has helped shape me into today!
Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most out of their college experience?
Chapman: I would tell any incoming students to soak it all in because four years truly goes by in the blink of an eye. Join the clubs, say yes to the plans and make the most of every day. I cannot believe my time at UD is coming to an end because it feels like just yesterday I was a nervous freshman trying to imagine what my next four years would look like. Now, I am leaving with a group of amazing friends and feeling incredibly proud of everything I have accomplished during my time here.
Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?
Chapman: Following graduation, I will be moving to New York City to begin working full-time as a location analyst for Ross Dress for Less. I am excited to start this next chapter, apply everything I have learned at UD and Lerner, and continue growing both personally and professionally!
