As a member of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ class of 2025, Mohamed Khalid Salim Al Hamdani, finance major with a minor in business analytics from Muscat, Oman has thoroughly demonstrated his excellence and dedication during his time at UD.
Hamdani was nominated for this series by Assistant Professor of Finance Howland Redding, who said, “ I have taught Mohamed for multiple semesters and he earns top scores on all exams, assignments & semester grades. Mohamed has perfect attendance and contributes in class discussions, he is a pleasure to teach and have in class.”
In this profile, Hamdani shared his favorite UD memories, how he has changed during his time at UD and his plans following graduation.
Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?
Hamdani: I learned to view failure as a growth mechanism and to trust the process!
Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?
Hamdani: A challenge of mine was the initial idea of “outstanding performance;” if it was not perfect, then it was nothing at all. I overcame this by embracing my failures, and being content by doing 1% better than yesterday; this improved my mindset as a whole and viola, success followed.
Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?
Hamdani: Joining a business fraternity in my junior year. This helped me further develop my network within Alfred Lerner and I got to experience the culture of my American pals.
Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?
Hamdani: Absolutely, shoutout to the goat, Prof. Howland Reading. In my junior year in his principles of finance class I had a B. Upon visiting Prof. Howland in his office hours, we concluded that I needed to score perfectly in all of the remaining assignments to get an A in this course.
It was through this experience that I learned to have much more confidence in my abilities. We all have it in ourselves to do great things, you just have to “lock in” and have the appropriate mindset.
Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?
Hamdani: A Lifelong Lerner to me is a person that consistently works hard to leave a lasting impression wherever his efforts are concentrated.
Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?
Hamdani: Trust the process, it will eventually make sense I promise. Make use of the professors you have, I believe there is a lot to be gained and learned from these amazing people!
And do not forget to have fun 🙂
Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?
Hamdani: I plan on pursuing a career in investment banking back home.
