A native of Crofton, Md., Morgan Gore graduated from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as a finance major with a minor in advertising.

Gore was nominated for this series by Associate Professor of Finance Jack Bao. In this profile, Gore shares her favorite UD memories, challenges she has overcome and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Gore: I have changed in so many ways over the course of my four years at UD. I started out my freshman year as a nutrition and dietetics major, hoping to become a registered dietitian. I then switched to medical diagnostics, then business undeclared, marketing, and eventually finally found my way to finance. It was a rollercoaster for sure. I was unsure of what I meant to do in this world and was scared of making the wrong decision. This process made me learn to be comfortable with the unknown and to trust that I would find the career path that was meant for me. As a graduating senior I can say I am more confident and no longer scared of what the future holds, but instead I’m excited.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Gore: I would say a challenge I faced during the first few years of college was stressing myself out to be perfect on every assignment, every exam and pretty much every task for all my classes. While this can be a good thing to an extent, I wasn’t letting myself live in the moment and really enjoy my experience at UD. Being surrounded by 40 of my teammates who were all in the same position as me made me learn how to have balance between school, lacrosse and my social life. Since making the change, I’ve really enjoyed myself more and feel present in every moment.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Gore: My favorite experience at UD was being a member of the Division 1 women’s lacrosse team. I could talk for hours about what this experience has meant to me over the last four years. I am so grateful that I got to play the sport I love so much and establish friendships that will last a lifetime.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Gore: Professor Bao is someone who made a big impact on my UD experience. He is the best professor I’ve ever had during my four years here. He is truly passionate about what he does, and he cares so deeply about all of his students. This University is so lucky to have a professor like him. He has made me excited for my future in finance; I know the knowledge he taught me will help me be successful in my career.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Gore: Being a “Lifelong Lerner” means always striving to grow and improve in all aspects of life. There is no such thing as perfection and there are always things to improve on. This is something I have lived by my entire life, and I will continue to do so after graduation. These last four years I have been focusing on improving on the lacrosse field and in the classroom, and I can take these lessons and apply it to any future career for the rest of my life.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming students to make the most out of their college experience?

Gore: I would tell incoming students to not be afraid of change and to embrace it. As someone who was once afraid of change, I can confidently say I would not be who I am at the end of these four years without it. My major changed … several times along social, physical and emotional changes. It can seem scary at first, but it is all part of the path that is going to make you who you are by the time you graduate.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Gore: Following graduation I will be joining WPG Financial Group in Baltimore, Md. as an analyst and client associate with the track to become a financial advisor. I am also earning my 50-hour yoga sculpt teacher certification with the hopes to teach yoga in Baltimore as well.
