As a member of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ class of 2025, Pamela Patton, operations management and management double major with minors in business analytics and leadership from Bridgewater, N.J. has thoroughly demonstrated her excellence and dedication during her time at UD.

Patton was nominated for this series by Instructor of Management Cathryn Schenk.

In this profile, Patton shares her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Patton: When I first entered UD, I was only a management major and didn’t really know where I wanted to go from there. Throughout my time, I found my interest in supply chain management and ended up adding another major and two minors into my course load. During my four years here I also was able to grow both personally and professionally by building my confidence in public speaking and strengthening my leadership skills.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Patton: Last semester I was balancing a full course load, serving on the executive board for Delta Sigma Pi, and continuing working for my internship. This pushed me to heavily rely on my calendar to keep myself organized and manage my time effectively.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Patton: One of my favorite UD experiences every year is Parents Weekend. I loved being able to spend time with my family and friends while tailgating at a football game.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Patton: I have had several Lerner staff members impact my UD experience. I had the opportunity to be in Cathryn Schenk’s class twice for her ethics and consulting classes. I was able to experience firsthand how she cares for her students inside and outside of the classroom. I would also like to highlight David Burke, who is a Lerner adjunct faculty member, for giving me the opportunity to be a TA for three semesters.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Patton: Being a “Lifelong Lerner” to me means to continue to look for new learning opportunities and development. Over the past two years, I have been fortunate to receive guidance and support from my Lerner Executive Mentor, Matt McCarthy. I am truly thankful for his mentorship and being a part of this program. I hope to one day pay this forward and offer the same support to another student.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Patton: My number one piece of advice to an incoming freshman is to make the most out of these four years because your time here will go very fast. Get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and take advantage of the career and RSO fairs.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Patton: I will be attending Rutgers University in the fall to get my master’s in supply chain analytics!
