MAEEE Alumni Highlights: Anthony Swierzbinski

Anthony Swierzbinski, MAEEE class of 2015, has been recognized for his exceptional work in the classroom and his philosophy of teaching history. His dedication to both his students and the field of education continues to inspire his colleagues. He is currently a middle school social studies teacher at The John Dickinson School in Wilmington, Del. He shared the opportunities MAEEE has provided him and what advice he would give to current students.

What exciting news or accomplishments have you been a part of?
I was named the 2024 Delaware History Teacher of the Year in July. Candidates were required to submit a resume, their best lesson plan, and a statement about their teaching philosophy. The award came with classroom materials, recognition at a ceremony, and a cash prize.

What other opportunities have the MAEEE degree provided you?
The MAEEE degree gave me the confidence to become a leader in my field. I now regularly lead professional development sessions for teachers in our state and also at the regional level through the Middle States Council for the Social Studies.

If you were to describe your classmates in one word, what would that be and why?
Leaders. The MAEEE program attracts individuals who are deeply passionate about improving education in their communities and are ready to lead both in and out of the classroom.

The MAEEE graduate program helped me become…
A confident leader in education, equipped with the skills and knowledge to inspire both students and educators.

What piece(s) of advice would you give to current MAEEE students or prospective applicants?
Be ready to work hard and play hard! The program requires dedication, but the opportunities that come with it are well worth the effort.
