MAEEE Alumni Highlights: Kylee Holliday

Kylee Holliday, MAEEE class of 2021, has quickly made a name for herself in the world of economic education, winning several awards, including the 2022 Bonnie Meszaros Econ Educator of the Year Award, given by the CEEE. She has also been actively involved in advocating for financial literacy education in Delaware, as she is currently a social studies teacher and department chair at Alexis I du Pont High School. She shared some of her recent accomplishments and the value that MAEEE has brought to her career.

What exciting news or accomplishments have you been a part of?
I was honored to receive the 2022 Bonnie Meszaros Economic Educator of the Year Award and the 2024 Excellence in Teaching Award from the Franklin Mint Credit Union. I’ve also been working with Delaware state legislators to make financial literacy a graduation requirement.

Why is this news valuable to your colleagues or educators considering the MAEEE program?
The MAEEE program provides opportunities to expand your reach in the world of economic education and make a significant impact. It helped me develop a passion for financial literacy, which led to advocacy work in my state.

What did you learn through your MAEEE experience that you wouldn’t have learned anywhere else?
I learned how to be a better presenter and curriculum writer from some of the best in the field. The program gave me opportunities I couldn’t have gotten elsewhere.

What other opportunities have the MAEEE degree provided you?
Sparked by my passion for teaching financial literacy, I have been able to develop a full-year financial literacy course for my school.  The course has increased in numbers each year and has provided my students with important lessons that they will take with them into adulthood.

If you were to describe your classmates in one word, what would that be and why?
Family. We instantly bonded and continued to support each other years later.

What piece(s) of advice would you give to current MAEEE students or prospective applicants?
Never underestimate the power of networking. You never know how meeting someone can change the course of your career.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
The MAEEE program is hands down the most valuable learning experience for economic educators. It will undoubtedly make you a better teacher.
