The University of Delaware is launching the Neil Book School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship within the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, marking a major investment in innovation-driven education and experiential learning. Made possible through a landmark gift from alumnus Neil Book and his wife, Sharon, the new school will build on the nationally recognized foundation established by Horn Entrepreneurship while expanding opportunities for students across the University.
Launching July 1, 2026, the Book School will support venture creation, interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship, funding opportunities and hands-on experiences designed to prepare students to lead in a rapidly changing economy.
“Entrepreneurial thinking is a habit of mind,” said UD President Laura Carlson. “Situated in the Lerner College of Business and Economics, the new Book School will have impact across the University, cultivating this mindset in all of our students, regardless of degree program or home college.”
“The Neil Book School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship will be a catalyst for Lerner College that brings together students, faculty, alumni and industry partners to turn ideas into action,” said Lerner Dean Oliver Yao. “It will serve as a hub for experiential learning in innovation and entrepreneurship education for all students at the University of Delaware.”
Neil Book said the school reflects a commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving business landscape shaped by innovation and artificial intelligence.
“We are living through one of the most consequential periods of innovation in history, and AI is rewriting the rules of business in real time,” Book said. “Our mission is to equip students with the skills, mindset and tools to solve real-world problems, launch impactful ventures and lead with vision.”
