Lerner Welcomes New Faculty: Avery Haviv

This year, the UD Alfred Lerner College welcomed several new faculty members into its community. Avery Haviv is an associate professor of marketing; he spoke with Lerner about his research focus and how he got into this career field.

Lerner: What is your professional and academic background?

Haviv: I have a Ph.D. in quantitative marketing from the University of Toronto, and have taught marketing since 2014.

Lerner: What is your research focus?

Haviv: My research focus is in consumer packaged goods and the video game industry.

Lerner: What inspired you to work in your field/research/subject area?

Haviv: I found I loved statistics in undergraduate, but really wanted to be able to apply it to studying people. Marketing gave me an opportunity to combine those passions and study human behavior with statistics.

Lerner: What is it about UD that made you want to work/teach/research here?

Haviv: I was drawn to UD because of the amazing faculty, beautiful campus and collegial work environment.

Lerner: What course are you most excited to teach at Lerner?

Haviv: The course I am most excited to teach at Lerner is Market Research.

Lerner: What is something unique about you that may surprise your peers/students? (hobby, talent, experience etc.)

Haviv: What you see is pretty much what you get with me – my hobbies are weight-lifting, improv, board games and my pets. I also watch a lot of TV –  I’m usually watching RuPaul’s Drag Race (my wife’s favorite) or 90s SciFi, like Star Trek or Babylon 5.
