Lerner Welcomes New Faculty: Todd Whitlow

This year, the UD Alfred Lerner College welcomed several new faculty members into its community. Todd Whitlow is a visiting instructor of marketing; he spoke with Lerner about his passion for sales and how he got into this career field.

Lerner: What is your professional and academic background?

Whitlow: I earned my bachelor of science, master of engineering and MBA with distinction from Cornell University.

Lerner: What inspired you to work in your field/research/subject area?

Whitlow: After a terrific career that far exceeded my expectations, I wanted to “pass on” the mentoring and benefits of college.

Lerner: What is it about UD that made you want to work/teach/research here?

Whitlow: What drew me to the University of Delaware was its professional sales curriculum, which is recognized as one of the most advanced programs on the East Coast.

Lerner: What course are you most excited to teach at Lerner?

Whitlow: Any of them! I’ve benefited and believe in the value of a quality business education. BUAD 470: Introduction to Professional Selling is my dream and I’ll start teaching this in Spring ’27. So far, I’ve enjoyed teaching BUAD 110 Basics of Business, especially to the World Scholars and International Students, BUAD 301: Introduction to Marketing, and BUAD 393: Seminar in International Marketing in New Zealand & Australia.

Lerner: What is something unique about you that may surprise your peers/students? (hobby, talent, experience etc.)

Whitlow: I played soccer for 25+ years and ran 5 marathons (slowly) until my knees said “no more.” Now, I bicycle to see the world. I’ve traversed Europe, Cambodia, New Zealand, Wyoming, Wales, England, Scotland and much of Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and many of the U.S. states by bike. I’m also very involved in helping two non-profits, St James of Philadelphia (4th-8th grade) and Bike The US for MS (Multiple Sclerosis).
