A native of Radnor, Pa., Adam Ryder is graduating from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics with a major in management information systems.
Ryder was nominated for this series by Assistant Director of Lerner Career Services Minda Watson, who said, “I would like to nominate (Adam) who is an unbelievably exemplary individual and is an exceptional representative of what Lerner strives for our students to be. It has been my privilege and honor to work with and learn from him.”
In this profile, Ryder shared his favorite UD memories, how he has changed during his time at UD and his plans following graduation.
Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?
Ryder: Throughout my journey at UD, I have changed a lot. I joined the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi, providing me with great opportunities to learn from others and further develop my professional and leadership skills. I learned how to network, write a good resume, and work with others. I also gained more professional experience through various internships, like at Lerner Career Services, where I get to help out other business college students with resume building and general career advice.
Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?
Ryder: One of the challenges that I faced was finding my place at the University and deciding how I wanted to spend my time. In sophomore year I joined Delta Sigma Pi, and in junior year I joined the club men’s ultimate frisbee team. Not only have these organizations made my college experience fulfilling, they have given me meaningful connections that will last a lifetime.
Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?
Ryder: My favorite signature UD experience was studying abroad in Italy over the 2025 winter session. I got to travel all around the Tuscany region as a part of the international finance study abroad program, and I made many new friends during the trip. Tim and Charlene made the trip incredible, and I am so happy to have been able to participate! This opportunity has sparked my enthusiasm for gaining international experience in the future.
Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?
Ryder: Minda Watson has made an incredible impact on my college experience. I met her during my sophomore year, where she helped guide me through the internship application process. I was lucky enough to continue my relationship with her during my senior year through working at Lerner Career Services. She has been my support system through it all, and I cannot express my gratitude for her enough.
Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?
Ryder: To me, being a Lifelong Lerner means paying it forward and helping out younger Lerner students. I was once that younger Lerner student looking for guidance, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the upperclassmen who helped me find my path. As I got older, I wanted to do the same thing for others. I am excited about maintaining my relationship with the college to help Lerner students navigate their own journeys!
Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?
Ryder: My advice to incoming freshmen would be to try new things and join anything that interests you as early as possible. Most of the time, knowing what you don’t like is more valuable than what you do. By trying new things, you begin to discover your path and purpose in the world.
Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?
Ryder: Following graduation, I will be working at KPMG in the Philadelphia office as an audit data engineering associate. I interned at KPMG during my junior year summer, and will be returning upon graduation for my full-time role.
