Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Turaskar: Reflecting on my journey from the first semester at the University of Delaware to now, I see a profound transformation in myself, both personally and professionally. Initially overwhelmed and introverted, I found the coursework and new environment daunting. However, the unwavering support from the accomplished Lerner faculty and staff, along with pivotal events organized by Lerner Career Services, profoundly shaped my growth. They not only enhanced my communication skills but also my ability to network and step out of my comfort zone. These experiences improved my stage presence and overall demeanor, encouraging me to interact openly and connect with diverse individuals. Now, as I near the end of my academic journey, I am profoundly grateful for the nurturing environment that fostered my confidence and continuous self-discovery, transforming me from a timid newcomer into an articulate and engaged community member.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Turaskar: During my college experience at the University of Delaware, I faced several challenges that spurred my personal and professional growth. Adjusting to a new cultural environment was initially daunting, but the iBuddy mentoring program provided crucial support, offering a mentor who guided me through early uncertainties and introduced me to valuable campus resources. Additionally, I developed effective time management skills to balance academics, leadership roles, part-time jobs, and the search for internships, creating a robust system to track and prioritize tasks for successful outcomes. Lastly, I actively enhanced my leadership skills by participating in debate meetings, engaging in clubs, and learning from experienced seniors, culminating in my role as president of the MBA Student Association. These experiences have been pivotal in shaping my college journey and preparing me for future endeavors.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Turaskar: My favorite signature experience at the University of Delaware was landing a job in the Dean’s Office. This opportunity was not just a job, it was a pivotal moment in my college journey. Working closely with the administrative staff and faculty, I met an array of amazing people who were not only supportive but also incredibly knowledgeable. Each day brought new learning experiences, from understanding the intricacies of university operations to gaining insights into academic administration. The interactions and the professional relationships I developed there have been invaluable, profoundly impacting my personal and professional growth. This experience stands out as a highlight of my time at UD because it deeply enriched my understanding of higher education and provided me with mentorship that guided my career aspirations and academic endeavors.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Turaskar: Throughout my time at the University of Delaware, I have been fortunate to encounter numerous Lerner professors and staff members who have significantly shaped my experience. Among the staff, Amy Estey and Andrea Hartman stand out for their exceptional support and readiness to assist whenever I needed guidance, often going above and beyond to help me on an urgent basis. From the professors, Dr. Caroline Swift, Dr. Michal Herzenstein, Dr. Fei Xie, Dr. Jing He, and Dr. Junbo Son have been particularly influential. They are among the coolest professors I have met, always welcoming questions with a warm smile and an eagerness to clarify doubts, fostering a nurturing learning environment. Their patience and enthusiasm for teaching have not only enhanced my understanding of complex subjects but have also made my learning experience enjoyable and deeply rewarding.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Turaskar: To me, being a “Lifelong Lerner” encapsulates the idea of permanently integrating the experiences and teachings from the Lerner College into my life. This philosophy involves both carrying forward the inspiring memories of my time at the University and drawing strength from the challenges I faced. As I progress through life, I remain committed to offering similar support and mentorship to future students, drawing from the valuable advice and guidance that UD alumni, professors, and staff provided me, which significantly shaped my career and personal growth.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Turaskar: To incoming freshmen at UD, I recommend several strategies to maximize your college experience. First, I engaged in the Lerner Executive Mentoring Program; my mentor, Devon Bond, offered invaluable insights on the U.S. job market and resume crafting, which were crucial for my professional development. Second, approach every course with an open mind. Whether it’s a required course or not, every class is an opportunity to learn from the diverse curriculum, faculty, and fellow students. Some of the best lessons and experiences I had came from casual discussions, office hours, and networking events, proving that you never know what will lead to professional growth. Lastly, actively participate in clubs and associations. These not only enhance your resume but also equip you with practical skills and experiences beyond the classroom, preparing you for the job market. These steps will not only enrich your educational journey but also lay a solid foundation for your future career.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Turaskar: Following my graduation, I plan to strategically position myself within an organization where I can effectively apply the technical skills and business acumen acquired through my MBA in business analytics. Specifically, I am targeting roles that align with my specialized skills in data analytics, project management, and strategic decision-making. My objective is to contribute to such environments with my ability to analyze complex datasets, optimize business processes, and drive data-driven decisions, thereby making a tangible impact on business outcomes.
