As a member of the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics’ class of 2025, Madison Faust, accounting and management information systems double major from Milltown, N.J. has thoroughly demonstrated her excellence and dedication during her time at UD.

Faust was nominated for this series by Assistant Professor of MIS, Advisor – MIS Undergrad Edward Hartono, who described her as an “outstanding student.”

In this profile, Faust shares her favorite UD memories, how she has changed during her time at UD and her plans following graduation.

Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?

Faust: From my first semester to now, I have grown and learned a lot about myself. When I first came to UD, I was nervous and unsure about my path, still figuring out what I wanted to do. Over the past four years, I have become more confident and sure of myself and my skills. I have stepped out of my comfort zone and challenged myself. I have learned so much and my experience at UD has shaped who I am today.

Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?

Faust: The biggest challenge I faced was time management. Over the last four years, as a double major, most of my semesters consisted of taking six classes while working part time as a tutor, so I always made sure to make a schedule each week. This past semester I was also studying for my CPA exam so that took some time to figure out as well, but it taught me a lot about time management. I have learned it’s important to prioritize time away from doing work/studying as well.

Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?

Faust: One of my favorite UD experiences was joining a service sorority. I have been able to give back to the community through service projects while building friendships with new people. I have made so many memories since joining my sophomore year, and it has been such a rewarding experience.

Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?

Faust: I have had so many great professors throughout my four years at UD that made a big impact on my experience. To name a few, Professor Roger Coffin’s business law classes were some of my favorite classes I took. He cares a lot about his students and going to class everyday was something I truly enjoyed. Also, Professor Amanda Convery has helped me immensely with my CPA journey and is always there to answer questions and offer advice. Lastly, Professor Edward Hartono has been very helpful as both my advisor and professor. He was always available for office hours and really helped me with learning about coding, as someone who knew nothing about it beforehand.

Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?

Faust: It means to me that I will always be a part of an incredible network and continue to have a connection to Lerner College. UD has shown me my love for learning, and this will stay with me long after I graduate.

Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?

Faust: I would say meet and connect with new people, get involved in what you’re interested in, and enjoy every moment because it goes by fast. I also think having a double major was a great idea, and I am thankful for my experiences in both my majors. There are so many opportunities so take advantage of what UD has to offer.

Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?

Faust: I will be working at EY in New Jersey!
