The 15th annual Taste of Newark food festival will be held from noon to 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30 on the lawn of the University of Delaware’s Old College in Newark. Q&A with Wendy Smith, professor of management, about her research recently published in Administrative Science Quarterly, with colleague Marya Besharov from Cornell University about their examination of the trend of companies working to both do well and do good. As companies seek to have it all – businesses that provide both profits and a positive impact on society – they face the challenge of balancing sometimes contradictory goals.
Fourth graders from Wilbur Elementary School get hands-on business experience in CEEE-sponsored program, Mini-Society. Students spent several weeks exploring basic economic concepts like supply and demand, pricing and the economic roles of consumers and producers. They also learned financial responsibility by earning money to pay business expenses and using bank accounts for deposits and withdrawals.
Select faculty from all five Lerner departments exchanged information and scholarship with their colleagues on best practices in teaching and innovative research in progress.
