A native of Middletown, Delaware, Louis Fevrin is graduating from the University of Delaware’s Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics as an honors business analytics and finance double major.
Fevrin was nominated for this series by Academic Program Manager Carrie Baldwin. In this profile, Fevrin shares his favorite UD memories, how he has changed during his time at UD and his plans following graduation.
Lerner: How do you think you have changed from your first semester at UD to now?
Fevrin: I think the area that I have changed the most since my first semester is my appreciation for finance. As I have progressed through my college years, I found myself having the desire to learn more about my major outside of the classroom through clubs, looking at the Wall Street Journal, or listening to podcasts. I believe that this has allowed me to grow professionally more than I could have ever imagined.
Lerner: What have been some of the challenges you have faced during your college experience and how did you overcome them?
Fevrin: I think the biggest challenge that I faced was trying to balance my time effectively with academics and clubs, as well as spending time with friends. Overtime, I was able to figure out what worked for me by planning out my schedule and getting better at studying.
Lerner: What was your favorite signature UD experience and why?
Fevrin: My favorite UD experience was the opportunity to study abroad in Italy during the winter of my senior year. It was my first time being truly abroad and I learned more from that single month than potentially any other time in my life. I created a lot of memories there that I will never forget.
Lerner: Did you have a Lerner professor or staff member that had a big impact on your UD experience?
Fevrin: I have had many great Lerner professors and staff members that have left a big impact on me. I would like to specifically shout out Professor Redding who was my first finance professor and helped set up for success in the major, Professor Mahmudi whose course helped me fully appreciate all of the different aspects of finance, and Carrie Baldwin who has helped me stay on track every year and has helped me with all of my questions and concerns.
Lerner: What does being a “Lifelong Lerner” mean to you?
Fevrin: Being a Lifelong Lerner means staying connected to the Lerner community even if I’m no longer physically on campus. The Lerner alumni network stretches all across the world and they are always more than willing to hop on a call and help a fellow Blue Hen. Through Lerner I have been able to gain valuable skills and experiences that I will use to help further strengthen this network of alumni.
Lerner: What advice would you give to incoming freshmen to make the most out of their college experience?
Fevrin: My advice to incoming freshmen would be to try everything. Don’t be scared to reach out to someone or to join a club. College goes by fast so try to make the most of it by being involved and doing what makes you happy.
Lerner: What are your plans following graduation?
Fevrin: I am actively looking for a company that aligns with my values and allows me to continue to learn and grow. I am excited to explore the opportunities that will come my way.
